Nestled on the banks of the Main river, an old steam cooling station with a dark brick façade and loophole-like windows framed by red and white folding shutters was chosen as the domicile for the Frankfurt based graphic design agency Sign Kommunikation. In this unique 600 sqm setting, Philipp Mainzer and his team conceived an office layout based on generous and natural use of space, while relying on such varying materials as exposed concrete and walnut to create masterful contrasts. The centre of the building is a ten meter (30 foot) high concrete entrance hall, but its true centrepiece is an atmosphere designed especially for the needs of creative minds, which is at once equally conductive to individual contemplation, communication and teamwork.
